1. The renaissance represents a more advanced, improved lifestyle compared to the middle ages. Culture such as art, music, and language evolved from being flat and monotone to multi-dimensional,exciting and polyphonic. The people were taught to think and learn for themselves instead of always relying on the Church for answers.
2. Food surplus of the Renaissance was extremely helpful and was the root to expanding their horizons. In the middle ages there was a shortage of the food and the food that they did have wasn't very appealing. In the middle ages people spent most of their time trying to get enough food for themselves and their families. During the Renaissance people were left with lots of time because they didn't have to spend all day collecting food. This open time led to inventions that they could trade. They also had time to build and invent boats. These boats led to exploration of new areas. These inventions and exploration expanded horizons and offered opportunity and hope to people.
3. Once trade started to occur more and more the lifestyles became more rich, peasants became middle class and cultures flourished. The Renaissance brought a new life to Europe and made it into what it is today. Astronomy opened up the minds of many and taught them to question what really is out there beyond what the church as taught them. People were breaking the generic molds that had be set for many years and setting new ones.
4. John Locke wrote an essay on Human Understanding. Locke believed that people were molded by the experiences that come from the surrounding world. He also believed everyone was born with an entirely blank mind.
5. An experience that molded the person I am today was moving to Vermont in 3rd grade. Moving made me meet new people and make new friends that are really important to me. It gave me the skills of adapting to new environments and trying new things when you don't always know what the outcome will be. For a few years I was angry that I had to leave my friends and my life that I had grown used to behind but now I see it has made me into a stronger person.
